Our Impression: Bamberg is a very special town to us, located a couple hours for Munich. Our Malt supplier Weyermann is located here so we have made multiple trips to this amazing town to visit our friends there. Bamberg is know for their Smoke Beer (rauchbier) with some brewerys and tap houses only serving this beer, and some breweries even smoking their own malt for this beer(like Bauerei Schlenkerla, which dates all the way back to 1367. The history of this beer is rooted deep in Bamberg. This beer at first glance will take you off guard, with the aroma being intensely smoky. First sip will lend you towards an intense yet comforting mix of bacon-like smoke and candy malt complexity, and finish right off your palate like a tradition german lager does. It is a comforting, easy drinking, out of the ordinary lager that we have fallen in love with.
Aroma: High noble hop aromatics, sweet malt, subtle sulfur
Appearance: Pours dark brown with amber hues, off-white foam, great lacing
Flavor: Very clean tasting German lager profile. Sweet dark candy-like malt body with medium-low perceptible hop bitterness. Incredible Bacon-Like Smoke flavor that is heavy on the nose and ends on the palate.
Mouthfeel: Silky, full bodied with medium carbonation.
