Our Impression: Stagerbock "stout-lager-bock" is a variation of our classic imperial stout, Storyteller. The main differences are the strength, hop character, and method of oaking. We brewed this to a slightly lower alcohol content since we are moving into warm weather and generally find the super high abv styles more suitable for winter. We gave this beer an extra heavy dosing of Chinook to bring forth pine, which melds wonderfully with the dark toasted oak it was aged on. The nice part of adding oak into the fermenter, as opposed to aging in an oak barrel, is that you preserve the original beer without oxidation. We wanted to retain more freshness and preserve the hop character, which is normally lost in the barrel. We hope you enjoy this special release!
Aroma: Deep roasted profile with notes espresso, earth, and pine.
Appearance: Pours black with a tan head.
Flavor: Stagerbock features a nice balance of roast, malt, and hop character. It is moderately bitter from a high hopping rate, which helps balance the overall sweet malt body. Notes of espresso and pine backed by the dark toasted oak give this beer an interesting and well defined complexity.
Mouthfeel: Full-bodied and velvety, with medium carbonation.
